Need to report a bug or request a feature? Write to our support tracker with your device, OS version and the steps to reproduce. Please never include private note content; a screenshot with sample text is enough.

Getting started

Requirements

macOS 26.3 or later on Apple silicon, or iOS 26.4 / iPadOS 26.4 or later. On-device AI requires Apple Intelligence to be available and enabled in system settings.

First run

The onboarding tour explains the sidebar, editor panels and AI features. Reopen it any time from the sidebar’s + menu › Restart Onboarding, or Help › Restart Onboarding on Mac. Press ⌘/ on Mac for the full list of keyboard shortcuts.

Agents

Create agents in Settings › Agents. Give each one a name, plain-language instructions and a set of tools. Each agent can use the default model or its own: Foundation Models, a default or custom MLX model, or the remote API configured in Settings › AI. Answers are inserted under the mention as quoted lines with a timestamp.

Daily notes, widgets and quick capture

Choose Daily Note from the sidebar’s + menu, press ⌘D on Mac, or tap a widget. Daily notes live in the Days folder with a yyyy-MM-dd heading. Further captures append to the same day’s note.

Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets

Open your device’s widget gallery and search for AIDoJournal. Choose a small or medium Daily Note widget for the Home Screen, or a circular, rectangular or inline widget when customising your Lock Screen. Launch the app once after installing it if it does not appear.

Record Note and Daily Note controls

On iPhone, customise the Lock Screen, remove one of the bottom controls and choose Record Note or Daily Note in its place. You can also add either control from Control Center’s Add a Control gallery.

Record Note opens AIDoJournal and starts recording into today’s note. Unlock your device and allow microphone and speech recognition access when asked. Stop recording in the editor to save the audio and transcript. Daily Note opens the quick-entry composer.

Mac widgets

Open Edit Widgets from the desktop or Notification Center and add AIDoJournal’s small or medium Daily Note widget. The medium widget includes Record Note. The menu bar also provides quick daily capture.

Find a daily note in the agenda

Open a note and show the Agenda panel using the calendar button (or ⌘⇧A on Mac). Select a day in the week strip or date picker. Its daily note appears under Daily Notes; select the row to open it. Daily notes do not require Calendar access. Allow Calendar access separately if you also want to see system events.

If a daily note is missing, check that you selected the right date and that the note is in the root Days folder with its date heading intact. Install the latest app build if you do not see the Daily Notes section.

Premium, sync and models

What does Premium include?

Compatible local MLX language models, MLX voices for podcasts and read-aloud, iCloud sync, and connections to AI providers using your own key. Provider fees are separate. Your notes and the free features remain available after cancellation.

Restore a purchase

Settings › Premium › Restore Purchases, signed in with the Apple Account that bought the subscription.

Cancel

Device Settings › Apple Account › Subscriptions › AIDoJournal. Premium remains active until the end of the paid period.

Model downloads

MLX models download into a local Hugging Face cache and then work offline. Neural voice models download on first playback; allow time and free storage for the download. If it fails, check your connection and disk space, then try playback again.

Troubleshooting

Widget does not appear: restart the device, then search for "AIDoJournal" in the widget gallery.
Calendar entries are not created: grant Calendar access in Settings › Privacy & Security › Calendars, then use the "Allow Calendar Access" button in the agenda panel.
Agent says a tool is unavailable: enable the tool for that agent in Settings › Agents › Tools.
Enable iCloud sync: subscribe or restore Premium, switch on iCloud in Settings › Import & Export, then restart AIDoJournal on each device.
iCloud sync is slow: sync runs in the background and depends on iCloud availability; make sure iCloud Drive is enabled for AIDoJournal on every device.
Ask gives no sources: the local index is built after notes change; wait a moment or toggle "Index notes for Ask" in Settings › AI.

Export your data

Settings › Import & Export lets you export any folder or your whole journal as Markdown files, and import Markdown, rich text or NotePlan folders.
